United Nations Publications promotes the work and knowledge of the United Nations through marketing, sales and distribution of publications, data and merchandise.
One of the purposes of the United Nations as reflected in the Charter of the United Nations is to "achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social. Cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion."
The United Nations employs a variety of subject matter experts who create knowledge products to advance these goals. These products include books, statistical databases, and other digital resources comprising facts and expertise on international peace and security, human rights, gender issues, economic and social development, international trade, climate change, international law, governance, public health, transportation and statistics. Publications include time sensitive reports that capture the state of the global economy and the welfare of the people and the planet.
Scholars, information specialists and policymakers are primary audiences for United Nations publications.
