About the UN's IMTSS
The UN Comtrade web site provides access to information and data on International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS) and the work of the International Merchandise Trade Statistics Section (IMTSS) of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD). The work program of the IMTSS has four parts:

Methodology IMTS

IMTSS is responsible for the development and maintenance of the methodology guidelines on IMTS, including the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC).
  1. Concepts and methods.
  2. National Practices.
  3. Inventory of IMTS classifications and related correspondence tables.
Database

IMTSS is responsible for maintaining the UN Comtrade database, which contains more than 1.75 billion trade records starting from 1962.

Analytical Tables

IMTSS is responsible for producing the analytical tables, which cover trade values and indices for individual countries and regions. The Tables are accessible through the web site.
  1. Tables published in the International Trade Statistics Yearbook.
  2. Monthly Bulletin of Statistics tables.
  3. Annual Totals Table (Country totals compared).
  4. Historical data (1900-1960).
International Cooperation and Workshops (IMTS)

IMTSS is responsible for providing access to reports and background documents on IMTS to the Statistical Commission since 1997, information about UNSD's cooperation with other international and regional organizations on IMTS and information about workshops conducted by UNSD to support countries in the implementation of the international recommendation on IMTS.
